The Dialogue Institute of the Southwest- New Mexico organized the 2015 Dialogue and Friendship Dinner & Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, November 17th, 2015 at 6:00pm at Embassy Suites Albuquerque. Representatives from different walks of life such as elected officials, clergy, leaders of communities, and business people, joined the dinner. The keynote speaker was Rev. Dirk Ficca on the theme of “Antidote to Extremism”.
The event started with opening remarks by NM State Senator Jerry Ortiz y Pino, the Chair of the Host Committee. Following the Dialogue Institute NM Director made his welcoming remarks. After him, the MC of the night Arcie Chapa invited NM State Rep. Georgene Louis for opening remarks on behalf of the host committee.
The keynote speech started at 7:00 pm after guests enjoyed the dinner and conversation with one another. Participants enjoyed mesmerizing live sand art show by Yakup Baris after the Rev. Dirk Ficca’s impressive keynote speech. Guests were amazed either by the show and speech.
Award Ceremony started at 8:00 pm with the first award introduction by the last year’s award recipient, former NM State Treasurer James B. Lewis for Leadership Award received by Don Tripp, Speaker of the NM House of Representatives. Following Education Award presented to the President of the CNM Dr. Kathie Winograd by Debbi Moore CNM Governing Board Chair and President/CEO of the Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce; Public Service Award – to David Downey, Fire Chief of Albuquerque by Rio Rancho Police Chief Michael Geier; Inspirational Teacher Award to Kindergarten Teacher Sonya Smith by Ahmet Tiryaki who is previous award recipient and the owner of DAMA Construction.
The event ended with the closing remarks by Professor Patricia Covarrubias as one of the advisory board members of Dialogue Institute- New Mexico.
