The 4th Annual Dialogue and Friendship Dinner & Award Ceremony

The Dialogue Institute of the Southwest- New Mexico organized the 4th Annual Dialogue and Friendship Dinner & Awards Ceremony on Thursday, November 7th, 2013 at 6:00pm at Embassy Suites Albuquerque. Representatives from different walks of life such as local media, elected officials, clergy, leaders of communities, and business people, joined the dinner. The keynote speaker was Mustafa Akyol (Journalist and Writer) on the theme of “Democracy and Liberty in the Middle East: What is next in Syria and Egypt?” New Mexico State Senator Cisco McSorley, Representative William Rehm, Judge Jason Greenlee, Reverend Frank Yates, Mgr. of Multi Media Arcie Chapa and Businessman Ahmet Tiryaki were the Host Committee.

The event started with an introduction by the Dialogue Institute NM Representative. Following the MC of the night Megan Kamerick (Producer- Host at NM PBS) invited Mr. Ali R. Candir for opening remark. He gave a little bit information about Dialogue Institute’s activities, mission and vision. The speech of Mr. Candir was followed by the serving of the dinner.

The keynote speech started at 7:00 pm after guests enjoyed the dinner and conversation with one another. MC of the night Megan Kamerick allowed guests to ask three questions to Mustafa Akyol about his keynote speech. Following the keynote speaker participants enjoyed the live art show by famous Turkish calligraphy artist Mr. Aydin Cayir. The show was unforgettable. After the show the artist told “tooth rent story” and announced that Dialogue Institute will “pay its tooth rent” to the guest by  giving name tags written by Mr. Cayir to use on their office desks as a gift to all at the of the event.  He said that this is how the host thanks to the guests for coming and that Dialogue Institute is simply saying “Sorry for keeping your teeth busy and this is our tooth rent”. Guests were amazed by the show, story and calligraphy giveaway announcement.
Award Ceremony started at 8:00 pm with the first award introduction by Deputy Treasurer Marilyn Hill for Leadership Award received by NM State Treasurer James B. Lewis. Following Education Award presented to Robert G. Frank, president of the University of New Mexico; Media Award – Kent Walz, editor in chief of the Albuquerque Journal; Public Service Award – Michael Geier, Albuquerque Police Department, Southeast Area; Community Service Award – Frank Yates, pastor at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church; and the Dialogue and Friendship Award – Ahmet Tiryaki, owner of DAMA Construction.
The event ended with the signing of the book “Islam without Extremes: A Muslim Case for Liberty” by Mustafa Akyol and Calligraphy giveaway by Aydin Cayir.
Guests experienced an unforgettable event with many amenity memories and shared contact information to further continue their friendships.
