Interfaith Concert of Freedom

The Corpus Christi Interfaith Alliance is pleased to announce that its second Interfaith Concert will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at 5:00 P.M.  The concert will take place at the Performing Arts Center on the campus of Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi.

Headlining the program will be RUTHIE FOSTER of Austin, Texas.  Ms. Foster has been nominated for two Grammy Awards and a long list of other honors for her music.  In 2013, she was named Best Female Vocalist in the Austin Music Awards competition.  Her “huge, full-bodied voice has drawn frequent comparisons with such legends as [Aretha] Franklin and Ella Fitzgerald.” [Keyboard Player Magazine]  Ms. Foster will be performing religious music of several genres, including spirituals, hymns and folk songs.

She will be followed on the stage by a combined choir of local adult voices and soloists from various Corpus Christi religious and civic institutions.  Their renditions will include Christian, Jewish, Moslem and East Asian music to represent the various religious and ethnic traditions that comprise Corpus Christi’s population.

The Corpus Christi Interfaith Alliance is composed of more than twenty local congregations.  Joining together in a musical setting conveys the dual message that each of the congregations is proud to practice its own form of religious faith with integrity and enthusiasm, but that they are also dedicated to cooperating and working together to enhance the welfare of the entire community of the Coastal Bend.

The public is cordially invited to attend this concert without charge.  It is presented to the citizens of our region as a gift from the sponsoring congregations in the hope that those who attend will share in the basic message of joyful diversity and committed unity of communal purpose that underlie this endeavor.
